Kansas City with Amanda Jolley

Kansas City in the distance

hanging out in Amanda's awesome studio

Kansas City was a great stop. I was brought there by Amanda Jolley, who I met last summer at EncaustiCamp. We got to know each other while we made encaustic books in Bridgette Guerson Mills' class. Amanda teaches soldering, journaling and encaustic classes in Kansas City. And she brought out a group of super ethusiastic art makers to the JCT event!

The event was held at Mud Pie Bakery, a fantastic cafe and bakery operating out of an old home. The space is split up into rooms and has a very cozy feeling, like you are visiting a friend and hanging out in their living room. We held the event in two rooms upstairs where there were some tables. I had an iced chai and chocolate raspberry cupcake. Delish!

The event was on Friday night. Jenn was at her step-sister's rehersal dinner and then at the wedding on Saturday. It was destiny the way my itinerary lined up with her need to be in Kansas City on these dates. It has been awesome to have a helper and someone to share the driving with this week! So with Jenn at the wedding and Amanada and Madeline Jolley headed off to California Saturday morning, I got the day off! And I needed it.

I spent most of my day off in Jenn's air conditioned hotel. I swam, sat in the hot tub, worked out in the gym, wrote, processed, talked to my husband, made a video, blogged, and caught up a little bit. It felt luxurious and by the end I felt grounded and energized for the days ahead.
