Last night we hosted Event #1 in Buffalo, NY. Jenn and I drove the 6 hours from Western Massachusetts and arrived in Buffalo an hour before we were to set up for the event. Danielle Nelson, of Life Unconstrained, lives in Buffalo and she is the reason Buffalo was chosen as a stop.
Dani and I had never met in person before yesterday, which is going to be a common story here on the blog. I haven't met most of the creative instructors that I work with on Seek Your Course and in-person conversations are a major reason this tour is happening...besides bringing hapiness to strangers.
I tried to look casual as Dani and I talked about her work and the role of Seek Your Course, but I couldn't help thinking that a stranger walking into the room would have thought I was a Psychologist. One would have expected to hear me say: "How does that make you feel?" But I couldn't help it! Dani is doing great work and had so many insights into our creative community. I had to sit cross-legged with my clipboard scribbling as fast as I could.
I did ask her about her focus (business development with creatives), her offerings (workshops, groups, and ecourses), and her observations working in this capacity (frustrations with ecourse platforms). I learned that Dani also bridges the technology, education and art worlds just like me (kind of a rare combination). So even though the visit was short, it was broadening and strengthening in a very real way. Looking forward to working with Dani more. (We even came up with some great collaboration ideas!)
The event was great! Very small. Probably will be one of the smallest. But the whole place was slow and quiet, which meant the waitresses came in and made art with us. Creative Gravity pulled them into a chair at the table and they played. At the end of the night I was convienced we were there for them. The event gave a spark to someone who needed it.
A made a video of the event. Very short. Enjoy!
And we stopped at Niagara Falls this morning. Beautiful!
